Referred by Kristine  |  I’m not really referring but more providing information. This hospital was recommended to us by the Holistic Vets we went to for East’s accupuncture. They felt East had progressive hip dysplasia and all the herbs in the world will not help. There’s a surgeon at this Berkeley hospital who specializes in hip dysplasia. We first were told by her, “Yes, East needs surgery. He has hip dysplasia.” Then three days later, after days of torment and tears, I received a call to tell me, “No, he doesn’t have hip dysplasia.” She had consulted with the radiologist and that was the final outcome. Though I was upset about the mis-diagnosis the first time (well, it was the fourth diagnosis, actually, but not all by her), I was very pleased she checked with the radiologist first before scheduling the surgery.

They also have a dermatologist on board, which is nice. However, he couldn’t figure out what was wrong with East’s skin. It has been three months now, and today, East is completely covered head to toe in some skin issue we can’t figure out. The vets can’t either. It has spread to his mouth area, and he is not feeling good at all. I am going to take East to UC Davis instead (recommended to me by another hospital). I don’t really have a comment here. I think for urgent needs where you can’t get to UC Davis, he is a good close-by resource.

Referred by Kristine  |  I can’t speak highly enough of this facility. Roger Schulze, DVM, took care of East with extreme care. I think he may have worried more about East’s pain than I was (which is unbelievable, I know). Their facility is very clean with a friendly staff. East was in a cage/room that was large enough for both Alex and I to sit in for an extended period of time. They offer emergency service. (I do think they saved East’s life.)

Updated by Kristine 06/09/07  |   I’m disappointed to report that we haven’t seen Dr. Schulze since we’ve brought the dogs back for different issues, one of which is East’s break-out on his skin. I asked them to take a skin sample, and the Vet that day almost said no, until I said, I’m not asking, I’m demanding. The Vet hinted to me that I was having psychoschematic reactions to East’s skin problems. What an idiot, honestly. East has serious bumps and scabs in large portions of his skin, mainly rear end, back of legs, front chest. This is common issues of mange or other diseases. Now East’s problem has elevated - his entire body is covered with this problem and he has formed blisters from licking himself day and night. Poor dog. So, do I recommend this hospital still? Yes, but unfortunately, I am no longer in love with them.

Glenview | This is more an office than hospital. We used this facility until recently, when East collapsed and they were not able to see us. They did refer us to an amazing facility, Broadway Pet Hospital.
