electronics recycling update

Today I brought a vacuum cleaner, still working but with a broken latch, to the recycling event I mentioned in an earlier e-mail.  I got several responses from some of you wanting more information, or wishing that the time and location were more “user friendly”.  This particular event was just a one day outreach by the Alameda County Computer Resource Center (ACCRC).  The worker told me that the time and place were assigned by the City of Oakland, nat the ACCRC.  OK, now for the good news: you can take your stuff there almost any weekday or Saturday.  You can only take things that plug in, not batteries or pieces of things.  You can get a receipt for a tax deductible donation because ACCRC is a 501(c)(3) qualified non-profit.

You can get more information at http://www.accrc.org/ .  Recyling electronic waste is complex and are some of the procedures.  Mostly there is no charge, but there might be on a few items, so read carefully and contact the organization directly with particular questions.

I am thinking about inviting my block to organize a group effort to get our electrical and electronic “stuff” recycled or properly disposed of through ACCRC.  Perhaps it will be our Earth Day Project.
