updates on miss caven

kristen caven.jpgDid you know Kristen Caven has accomplished these milestones recently? Unlike me, she’s a little more shy about tooting her own horn. So I guess I’ll have to do it for her.

From her email to subscribers…

Do you like Musical Theater? Do you like Grandma’s Cooking? I have some fun news about both subjects…

Musical Magic

Since May, I have been working with composer Michael O’Dell on my musical about modern-day princesses, “Shoes, a Mirror, and a Big Pink Rose.” Last week we reached a milestone, recording a demo! It was such a thrill for me hearing words that have been bumping around in my head for so long take on a life of their own. It was equally exciting to hear the tunes that have been percolating in Michael’s head become more fully realized.

If you’d like to take a “sneak listen” to the first three tunes, click the link below. Think “Cinderella!”

We recorded the demo to apply for grants. Please cross your fingers for us, and let us know if you have any good theater connections….

Retro Cooking

In other news, my article “Deconstructing the Deco Diet” amused the Miami Beach Design Preservation League so much, they invited me to come speak to their community! I’m flying out there in November to talk about — and serve — turkey leftovers in deco-era delightful ways such as Luncheon Loaf, รก la King, forcemeat, croquettes, and hash.

Do you have a great, wierd recipe from the past? Send it along! Know anyone in the Miami Area? Tell them to come; it will be a tasty good time.

Can’t come? Read the article (below) and crack open your own grandma’s cookbook!
