call for dimond events
from Daniel Swafford, D.I.A.
We are looking for suggestions for Dimond events in the 2006-2007 years. The DIA Board meets this Wednesday and wants to consider all your ideas. Please consider any lectures, talks, mixers, music, events (shared or otherwise) for both:
1. in conjunction with the DIA general meeting, first Wed. every other month (11/1, 1/3, 3/7…), and
2. held separately at any one of the wonderful venues in Dimond; Dimond Lib, Bjornson Hall, Fruitvale Presb, creek space behind Paws & Claws, Sequoia School, etc.
Please send feedback to danielswafford@aol.com
Some suggestions gathered at the last general meeting were:
- Solar Walk focus on sites that already have solar power installed. Might include Glenview
School. It might be led by knowledgeable person. It could include Bay Friendly gardens as well.
- Historical Walk focus on Dimond history with archival photos on display. It might be led by someone from the Oakland Heritage Society. It could be one of the activities during the picnic.
- City wide Safety Fair focus on health, waste disposal, emergency preparation, crime prevention, etc.
- Game night focus on various games being set up for individuals or teams to play. Maybe there would prizes, refreshments, instructors.
- Proarts event, various artists from Dimond and Oakland might present their works in different shops, restaurants, etc
- Music Festival focus on local musicians
- Outdoor Artistic Night, local crafts people, musicians, farmers’ market. Perhaps it might be staged in the Dimond parking lot on Bienati Way.
- History Night featuring Eleanor Dunn. It might be held at Norweigan Hall.
- Halloween Night featuring a walk by kids to various merchants and homes and it might be connected to specific school. Merchants could offer treats.
- Walk to School Day focus on a specific school
Thank you for any suggestions, let us know if you are available to support or chair any particular event. Results will be shared when compiled. You can post other scheduled events at the Dimond website.
