Police and Sheriff Training At Oak Knoll

Attention Local Residents!

You may have recently heard loud noises coming from the Oak Knoll property. That’s because throughout the month of August, the Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting training on the Oak Knoll site. Tactical exercises will include the discharge of paintballs, which result in the noises you may have heard. We want to assure you that this is all a part of the agencies’ regular training regimen, and these actions pose no threat to neighboring residences. Thank you to all of our neighbors for your understanding.

For more information, please call the Oakland Police Department at (510) 777-3333.

i love the dimond

From Ruth Villasenor

I just wanted to thank the Dimond Improvement Association and all the volunteers, and Michelle, Dimond Park Director, and Robin Goodfellow, crafts extraordinaire, for such a fantastic picnic on a beautiful sunny Sunday.  Dennis Evanosky led a wonderful history tour though the Dimond district, and I know everyone on the tour didn’t want it to end.  It was so great to walk back to Dimond Park and get to enjoy the food provide by Abdo from Two Stars and Diana & Joe from Farmer Joe’s, as well as coffee from Peets.  I didn’t get to stay for Women’s Will, how was it?  I love the Dimond now more than ever, even if we still have some issues, seeing the community come together and enjoying each other’s company, reminded me why I feel like the Dimond has so much potential.

Ruth

Thanks to all involved too. It was wonderful event. Just a reminder for those history buffs that Dennis has a book coming out in August about the Laurel District. I know I’ll be looking for it.

4.2 earthquake - oakland - july 20

By Arthur G White

Wow, that was a rock and roll.  From what I can see on the maps this morning, it was centered in Joaquin Miller Park right about where the Westminster theater is located..  Here’s a map location, but I don’t know it if will make it through the list.  Click here to see for yourself.
